Former Berekum Chelsea forward Kofi Owusu has explained that Ghanaian clubs’ frequent use of black magic, commonly known as juju, is the reason why dressing rooms often have bad odours.

Owusu claimed that all the clubs engage in juju and frequently dispose of ritual materials in the washrooms after games.

He added that the dressing rooms are often not cleaned after games, hence, the smell lingers.

“What Sulley is saying is not surprising. When there are leftovers, they dump them in the washroom. Sometimes, the team won’t play their next home game for two weeks, which is why the smell lingers,” he told Angel FM.

“Also, some people don’t want the washrooms cleaned because they believe it could be a form of spiritual preparation for their return to the venue.”

Owusu’s remarks were in support of Sulley Muntari’s earlier claim that, during his short spell with Hearts of Oak, he used to dress outside dressing rooms because of the unpleasant smell.

“The changing rooms smell. That respect is not there. I didn’t even want my laundry done—I would take it home. When you enter the changing rooms, they smell bad. It’s not just one team; it’s everybody,” Muntari told 3Sports.

Sulley’s comments add to growing concerns about the subpar facilities that marred his return to the Ghana Premier League.
