A former Auditor-General, Daniel Yao Domelevo, has challenged former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo to produce the appointment letter of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo.

According to Daniel Yao Domelevo, the letter Nii Ayikoi Otoo tendered before the investigative committee that sat on Torkonoo’s case indicated that the Judicial Secretary, a junior officer, had appointed the Chief Justice.

Domelevo, who served as a member of the committee that investigated petitions against the former Chief Justice, described Otoo’s claims about the committee’s handling of evidence as misleading and a distortion of facts.

Otoo, who represented the former Chief Justice before the committee, had accused the panel of mishandling evidence and succumbing to external influences in its findings.

‘Gertrude Torkornoo’s lawyer presented fake evidence’ – Domelevo claims

He further alleged that key documents he submitted in defence of the Chief Justice were disregarded.

However, speaking on The KSM Show, Domelevo dismissed the accusations, insisting that the documents Otoo presented were “fake” and lacked credibility.

Citing one example, he said Otoo submitted a letter purportedly from the Judicial Service that suggested the Judicial Secretary, rather than the President of Ghana, appointed the Chief Justice.

“I challenge him to produce the appointment letter of the Chief Justice that he brought to the committee for the public to digest it. It will interest you to know that it is the junior of the Chief Justice, the Judicial Secretary, who appointed the Chief Justice. That letter he produced is signed by the Judicial Secretary appointing a CJ.

“Mr Ayikoi Otoo’s attack on me, I find it very interesting… he said he provided all the evidence to me and I sat there and didn’t take it. I want to put it on record that he provided us with evidence that was fake; fake evidence.”
