John Paintsil (M) sued 3 media entities, 4 sports journalists for alleged defamation in 2024 John Paintsil (M) sued 3 media entities, 4 sports journalists for alleged defamation in 2024

The defamation case involving former Black Stars defender John Paintsil and broadcast personality Patrick Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, and three others, is set to resume on February 17, 2026, as proceedings at the High Court continue to gather momentum.

Paintsil has already been cross-examined by lawyers representing the Multimedia Group Limited and Patrick Osei Agyemang, with the next sitting expected to see legal representatives for Christopher Nimley, Saddick Adams and Veronica Comey also subject the former international to cross-examination.

The February 17 hearing will therefore mark a critical stage in the plaintiff’s testimony.

Following the completion of Paintsil’s cross-examination, counsel for John Paintsil will then cross-examine Patrick Osei Agyemang, after which the cases of the remaining three defendants will follow in sequence, according to the court’s schedule.

Prior to the commencement of cross-examination, John Paintsil rejected a GH¢100,000 settlement offer, describing it as “disrespectful.”

The former right-back is pursuing a major defamation action over alleged defamatory comments made on Multimedia platforms, seeking GH¢25 million in total damages, GH¢5 million from Patrick Osei Agyemang and GH¢20 million from the Multimedia Group Limited.

In the wake of the lawsuit, Patrick Osei Agyemang was taken off air by the Multimedia Group for over a year, a development that generated significant public debate.

However, sources close to the broadcaster indicate that the outspoken presenter is expected to return to the microphone this month.
