The Ranking Member of the Defence and Interior Committee and Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has formally requested a joint briefing from key national security agencies on pressing security matters of public interest.

In a letter dated April 2, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior, the legislator called on state security agencies to provide updates on ongoing investigations.

“The security agencies would be expected, inter alia, to provide updates on investigations specifically conducted into the operation by National Security in Sapeiman on February 9, 2025, which uncovered twelve 20-foot containers stashed with gold bars and currencies. The high-profile busts of cocaine worth $350 million and another worth $120 million, which took place in March,” he stated.

He further cited the arrival and departure of two suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport.

“The two suspicious flights, namely AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-128, which landed at Kotoka International Airport from Gran Canaria on March 20 and March 12, respectively, and are believed to have departed back to Gran Canaria on March 25, and the cargo they carried to and from the country,” he noted.

The former Deputy Minister of Education stressed that the committee will share relevant information to assist in the investigations.

“The Committee would also volunteer information that will be useful for the security agencies in the conduct of their investigations into the specific matters under reference,” it added.
