Former Ghana captain, John Mensah, has urged and encouraged the Black Stars to “Focus, work hard and win a trophy for the nation.”

According to him, Black Stars during his time was a beacon of hope in African football, but they failed to win any trophy for Ghana despite coming close on two occasions.

John Mensah urged the current players, made up of young talents like Kudus Mohammed, Antoine Semenyo and veterans like Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey to end the nation’s 43 years AFCON/trophy drought.

“Football is very important in our country, we can’t do way with it,” he noted.

He added that “there are clubs in Ghana but the focus is mainly on the Black Stars, so they should work hard and take the nation to the next level.”

Mensah’s call came at a critical moment when Ghana will take on Chad and Mali in a determining doubleheader qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup tournament in America, Canada and Mexico.
