The Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo, on Tuesday, January 14, 2026, organised and personally paid transport fares for commuters travelling towards Lapaz, in Accra.

In a viral video shared on X, Dumelo is heard explaining that the intervention covered commuters from Okponglo to Lapaz, as well as from Shiashie to Madina, following transportation difficulties that left many stranded.

“I organised and paid for all commuters this evening headed to Lapaz from Okponglo and also Shiashie to Madina,” Dumelo stated.

He described the initiative as a temporary relief measure and assured residents that he is working on a more sustainable solution to address transportation challenges within the constituency.

“This is a short-term measure, and I am working on a longer solution,” he noted.

Dumelo also commended Metro Mass Transit for making buses available to support the exercise.

“Thanks so much Metro Mass!” he said.

The gesture was met with appreciation from commuters; many of whom expressed relief after being stranded and exhausted due to the transport shortages.

This comes amid recent transportation difficulties in Accra during peak morning and evening hours, which have forced commuters to pay high, unapproved fares.
