The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, John Dumelo, has underscored the critical role of agriculture and value addition in Ghana’s economic transformation.
According to the lawmaker, adding value to agricultural produce is essential for improving farmer incomes, creating jobs, and strengthening the national economy. He emphasized that Ghana can no longer rely solely on the export of raw agricultural materials if it seeks sustainable development.
In a social media post shared on January 18, 2026, the MP recounted his recent visit to the West Akim Constituency, where he held discussions with local farmers on modern farming practices and agribusiness opportunities.
Mr. Dumelo also interacted with students of Asamankese Senior High School, urging the youth to view agriculture as a profitable venture rather than a last resort. He encouraged students to explore agro-processing and innovation as ways of increasing the value of farm produce.
The MP expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Owen Kwame Frimpong, for the warm reception and support extended to him throughout the visit.
