Ghanaian music producer JMJ has finally addressed the long-standing rumors surrounding the departure of his former artiste, Kaakie, from his Xtra Large Music record label.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, JMJ offered insight into the real reasons behind their split, dispelling speculation and setting the record straight.

He indicated that the decision was less about controversy and more about Kaakie’s mindset toward music.

“Kaakie loved music, but she wasn’t passionate about it,” JMJ said, noting that while her talent was undeniable, her heart wasn’t fully in the game for the long haul.

He recalled a moment that underscored the lack of animosity between them: “I once heard Abeiku Santana ask Kaakie on radio if he had ‘chopped’ her money or done anything bad to her but she said no.”

JMJ explained that Kaakie’s demanding schedule contributed significantly to the situation. At the time, she was juggling her university education with an emerging music career—two worlds that are notoriously difficult to balance.

“Kaakie didn’t have time for music but she was soo talented that, just 10 minutes in the studio would blow your mind,” he revealed. “So she had little time, and don’t forget, she was also in school. She was in Uni at the time, and nursing is not an easy course. So she was balancing the two, which I understood.”

Despite her obvious gift, JMJ emphasized that Kaakie never viewed music as her long-term path.

“But the truth of the matter is that Kaakie loved music, but she didn’t see music as a long-term career that she was going to pursue,” he added.
