Sports journalist Jerome Otchere has expressed frustration regarding the role assigned to former midfielder Stephen Appiah in the newly constituted Black Stars Management Committee.

According to him, there is no need for someone to be designated to manage player relations, as the head coach of the team continually interacts with the players when they meet.

The sports analyst indicated that it would be prudent for one of the technical staff to be given such a role rather than hiring Appiah to take charge.

“If you take, for instance, the role that Stephen Appiah is going to play, they say he’s going to be a link between the technical team or the FA and the players. Then what’s the job of the coach? What’s the job of the team manager? What’s the job of the technical team? Doesn’t the technical team structure accommodate player issues and deal with them?

“Yes, he’s an ex-footballer and a good one at that. So, he comes down from this office as a management committee member to manage player relations. Exactly what is the job of the coach? If the coach cannot maintain good relations with players, then how is he going to coach them?” he quizzed during an interview with Citi Sports.

Otchere further asserted that he disagrees with the GFA’s Black Stars Management Committee concept, deeming it outdated.

“How is he going to coach the players? You don’t need a link. This is a creation of the FA, just to satisfy interests that some of us struggle to understand. So, I am not for the whole idea of having management committees, but I’m not the one running the FA. I’m not running the Black Stars either,” he added.

This came after the GFA’s announcement that Appiah would oversee player relations as Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee.

In this role, the former Black Stars captain will collaborate closely with committee chairman Dr. Randy Abbey to provide necessary support.
