Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Jeremie Frimpong delivered an outstanding performance to help Bayer Leverkusen secure victory over Union Berlin in the German Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old Dutch international lasted 78 minutes as his team cruised to a 2-1 away win on Saturday afternoon.

Union Berlin were handed an early scare after the Ghanaian defender gave Leverkusen the lead just two minutes into the match, following an assist from Alejandro Grimaldo.

In a dramatic turn of events, the home team levelled the score in the 29th minute with Woo-Yeong Jeong’s strike, set up by Benedict Hollerbach.

Czech Republic international Patrik Schick emerged as the hero, firing home the match-winner in the 71st minute to secure maximum points for the visitors in the thrilling encounter.

The Dutch-Ghanaian right-back was replaced in the 79th minute by Nigeria international Nathan Tella.

Frimpong has been impressive for Leverkusen this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in 11 Bundesliga appearances.

His outstanding performance has caught the attention of several top clubs in Europe. The highly-rated defender’s current contract with Leverkusen will expire in the summer of 2028.
