On July 1, 2025, history was made. The sound of water gushing from the earth echoed like a hymn of hope across Japugando, a Konkomba community in the Northern Region of Ghana.

For the first time, clean, drinkable, life-saving water flowed freely in the village thanks to the fully funded intervention of the Ross Family Viva Foundation Corp USA, under the bold leadership of Nick Ross, in partnership with PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana.

What was once only a distant dream has become a powerful reality.

The District Chief Executive of Nanumba South District, Abdul Rashid, joined the community for the official commissioning of the borehole. With deep emotion, he declared, “This is more than water this is survival.

“I have been praying for organizations like the Ross Family Viva Foundation and PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana to support us. Today, Japugando is remembered. But this must only be the beginning.”

He called for continued support in the form of:

    • Solar systems to bring light to the community

    • A school building for Japugando’s children

    • A medical center to end preventable deaths

“We’re doing our part. But we can’t do this alone,” he emphasized.

At the inauguration, the Women’s Leader of Japugando, with tears streaming down her face and hands lifted to the sky, expressed the community’s gratitude, “We have suffered for too long. Our backs are broken from carrying water, our hearts are weary from being forgotten.

“But today, you remembered us. And now, we will remember you in our songs, our prayers, and in our healing.”

    This single borehole means:

    • No more deadly treks to River Dakar

    • No more missed farming hours

    • No more children falling ill from drinking contaminated water

Chief Yakubu Fuseini, Executive Director of PAMEPI Women in Tech Ghana, could not hold back his emotions. Witnessing the transformation, he shared, “This is why we do what we do. But this isn’t enough.

“Today, I make a vow to call on more partners, more hearts, more hands to come and finish what we’ve started. The people of Japugando deserve more. They deserve everything.”

The original project targeted Namani village, but the drilling truck became trapped in the deep, muddy terrain, and with time, costs, and risks mounting, the team, alongside the DCE, pivoted to Japugando.

Against the odds, by Sunday morning, water burst forth, marking not just a physical breakthrough but a moment of spiritual liberation for the entire community.

Swipe through the attached photos and videos to witness:

    • The treacherous journey through the mud

    • Community gatherings and heartfelt prayers

    • The very first drops of clean water rising from the earth

    • Joy, dancing, and hope reborn in real-time

This is only the beginning. Japugando’s voice now echoes far beyond its borders, calling on partners, donors, changemakers, and people of goodwill to support:

    • Solar electricity systems

    • School Infrastructure

    • Basic medical care

    • Food security and women’s enterprise

Let’s keep digging not just for water, but for equity, for peace, and for life.
