World number one Jannik Sinner defeated defending champion Carlos Alcaraz to win his maiden Wimbledon men’s singles title on Sunday.

The Italian triumphed 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in a high-quality final that lasted just over three hours on Centre Court.

The victory makes Sinner, 23, the first Italian man to win Wimbledon. It is also his fourth Grand Slam title, adding to his wins at the 2024 US Open and the 2024 and 2025 Australian Opens.

Sinner’s win comes just five weeks after he lost to Alcaraz in a dramatic five-set final at the French Open, where he held championship points before falling short.

This time, however, he recovered from losing the first set and dominated the rest of the match with consistent baseline play and strong serving.

Speaking after the match, Sinner said, “It’s so special. I had a very tough loss in Paris, but you just have to understand what you did wrong and keep working.”

He also drew laughter when recalling a moment during the second set when a champagne cork landed near him, joking: “Only at Wimbledon!”

The final was watched by tennis legends including Andre Agassi and Chris Evert, and further highlighted the growing rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz, who have now shared seven of the last eight Grand Slam titles.

Their next likely showdown could come at the US Open in August, as the pair continue to dominate the men’s game.
