Renowned Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu has called on President John Dramani Mahama to introduce legislation aimed at curbing the increasing trend of online insults directed at prominent individuals.

In a video shared on his Instagram page on May 26, 2025, while vacationing in the United States, Manu praised President Mahama for the positive strides made since returning to power, particularly highlighting the appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar.

However, Manu expressed concern over the culture of disrespect on social media, where some Ghanaians verbally attack national figures, including the President, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and influential businessmen such as Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, and Ibrahim Mahama.

“There should be a law to address this issue. Some people on social media insult prominent personalities without any regard. These ill-mannered and undisciplined individuals should face a one-year jail sentence for each insult,” he stated.

Manu’s comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media. Some users support his stance, calling for respect and decorum online, while others question the implications of such a law in a democratic society.
