Jacinta Nampijinpa Price may well be on her way back to the shadow ministry following the Liberal’s leadership spill which ousted its former leader.

Price had been removed from her position on the frontbench by ex-leader Sussan Ley due to her comments on Indian migrants which had drawn backlash across the aisle.

She had previously been the Shadow Minister for Defence Industry and Defence Personnel before Ley accepted her resignation in September 2025.

Another prominent party member who also resigned the front bench, Angus Taylor, is also understood to be considering a return to a portfolio position.

Hastie had quit the shadow cabinet shortly after Price in October.

Taylor’s complete ministry will be announced in the coming days following his successful leadership bid on Friday.

Thus far there have been no concrete words on who will be filling what position under his rule.

Price congratulated him on the new job in an email sent out to supporters on Sunday.

Price had been removed from the frontbench after she failed to support Sussan Ley and degraded Indian Australians in September 2025

The NT senator said Taylor’s leadership presented ‘renewal and opportunity’ for the party which is now polling at unprecedented lows.

‘Under Angus’s leadership, I believe we can chart a way forward where we offer Australians a genuine opposition and an alternative government,’ she wrote.

‘I believe we can do that if we stop trying to be Labor-lite.

‘Time and again, we’ve seen that when we try to be like Labor, people just vote for the real thing.

‘Our values need to be concrete and tied to real outcomes.

‘Stopping mass immigration, restoring cheap energy, bringing back industry, building more housing, ceasing classroom indoctrination, and reviving national pride.’

She also advised Taylor to reject falling for culture wars and identity politics which had dogged his two predecessors.

Instead, he should refuse ‘to play the game with media or with Labor of pandering to sectional interests’, she wrote.

Ley accepted Price’s resignation at the time

Angus Taylor is now the leader of the Liberals and Price may have an opening to return to the shadow ministry under his stewardship

Ley removed Price from her shadow ministry as a result of the senator not fully backing her leadership alongside her controversial comments on Indians.

In September, Price faced backlash after accusing Labor of bringing in ‘large numbers’ of Indian migrants to help boost its vote.

Several senior Coalition figures called on Price to apologise but she remained firm.

After this she doubled down by re-sharing a lengthy post written by conservative political commentator Rukshan Fernando – before holding an impromptu press conference where she refused to express confidence in Opposition Leader Sussan Ley.

During the press conference, Price admitted her comments had been ‘clumsy’ but insisted there needed to be a debate about immigration.

‘The issue that’s of great concern which I won’t be silenced on is the issue of mass migration in our country and that was the prime issue that I was talking about and continue to talk about,’ she told reporters.

‘An issue that I truly believe that we need to be able to have a respectful debate about and we should all be focused on that.’
