Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has opened up on his admiration for Ghanaian legend Asamoah Gyan following a standout individual campaign with Leicester City.
Despite his impressive performances, Fatawu could not prevent Leicester’s relegation to the EFL League One. The Foxes’ struggles were compounded by a six-point deduction for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), a setback that proved decisive in their drop from the Championship.
The 22-year-old winger, however, enjoyed a stellar season on a personal level, registering 16 goal involvements; nine goals and seven assists in 44 appearances.
His direct style, pace, and creativity made him one of the club’s standout performers throughout the campaign alongside countryman Jordan Ayew.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Fatawu has also become known for his lively personality, often entertaining fans with his dance celebrations and joyful approach to the game. His style has drawn comparisons to some of Ghana’s most charismatic football figures.
Speaking upon his arrival at Kotoka International Airport after a long season, the mercurial winger paid tribute to former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan, highlighting the influence the legendary striker has had on him.
“Asamoah Gyan is a legend. I always look up to him. I’ve tried to copy his style. He’s the kind of person who brings energy and joy,” he said.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is expected to make the Black Stars’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
