England striker Ivan Toney was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning after an alleged altercation at a London nightclub, where he is said to have headbutted another patron during a confrontation.

The 29-year-old Al-Ahli forward, back in the UK for a short visit, was out with friends when the incident unfolded and was later escorted out of the venue in handcuffs by Metropolitan Police officers.

According to witnesses inside the Soho establishment, the situation escalated when a group of men recognised Toney and approached him for a photo. One man reportedly grabbed him in an attempt to pull him closer, prompting Toney to push back.

Moments later, the striker is alleged to have struck one of the men with his head, leaving the individual with visible facial injuries.

One eyewitness said the approach seemed to start as “overexcited fan behaviour” before turning tense.

“They crowded him too quickly. He looked uncomfortable, like he wasn’t sure what their intentions were.” Another onlooker suggested Toney may have feared the group was trying to snatch his jewellery, saying the striker “looked genuinely alarmed before things went wrong,” the witness said.

Emergency services were called shortly after 1 am. London Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics assessed multiple people at the scene, with one man taken to hospital for treatment of a suspected broken nose and other minor injuries.

The Metropolitan Police later confirmed the arrest, noting: “A 29-year-old man was detained on suspicion of assault and affray. He has been released on bail while investigations continue.” Officers are understood to be reviewing CCTV footage and taking further statements from those present.

Toney has not publicly commented on the incident. His club, Al-Ahli, is also yet to release a statement as inquiries continue.
