It’s time to bank hopes on local players for Black Stars revival – Dan QuayeDan Quaye is a former Ghana international

Former Ghana international Dan Quaye is seeking more Black Stars opportunities for home-based players for the team’s revival.

His comment stems from the Black Stars’ stalemate against Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifier on Thursday afternoon. Ghana has come under intense pressure after failing to secure maximum points against Chad.

Ghana were two minutes away from securing a crucial away victory before the hosts struck through Ecua Celestin to cancel Jordan Ayew’s first-half goal.

Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare appears to be the only home-based player to have made the cut for the Chad and Mali duels this month.

After watching the Black Stars against Chad, the former Hearts of Oak marksman said it is about time the country banked its hopes on local players for the Black Stars’ revival.

“I will blame the defenders for the equaliser. They were just sleeping on duty. It’s time for us to bank our hopes on the local players. Razak Simpson is a top defender and could have done us good against Chad. He could have prevented the Chadians from grabbing this equaliser,” he told Bryt FM.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have arrived in Ghana ahead of the crucial game against Mali, scheduled for Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Currently, the West African football heavyweights sit top of Group I, having accumulated 16 points after seven matches, followed by Madagascar (13 points), Mali (12), Comoros (12), Central African Republic (5), with Chad securing just a point.

The Black Stars will finalise their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign with games against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October 2025.
