Gyakie (R) with her manager Electro Mirror Gyakie (R) with her manager Electro Mirror

Ghanaian singer Gyakie has opened up for the first time about the traumatic incident involving her manager, Electro Mirror, during the AfroNation Portugal festival in June 2023.

In an interview on Hitz FM on May 23, 2025, she described the experience as deeply distressing, revealing that it left lasting emotional scars.

The incident occurred when Mirror was involved in a confrontation with security personnel at the festival.

A video that circulated online showed him being pinned down and restrained by multiple guards, prompting widespread concern and outrage.

Mirror was subsequently taken to the hospital and later reported to be in stable condition.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Gyakie said, “Anytime I have to talk about it, it kind of opens wounds that have already been healed. The only thing I’ll probably say is God is real, because what happened and the fact that I actually had a performance that day is not something I would wish on anyone, because I had to also prepare for stage and I had to experience all that.”

She added that the incident made her realize the unpredictable nature of the music industry, where “anything can just go wrong.”

“I think that’s the first negative thing that has happened in my career. It made me see things differently. That this job that we’re doing, we really have to walk like we’re on needles. We have to be very careful because anything can just go wrong in a flash and everything can crumble. But again, I just thank God that we were able to come through that victorious,” she said.

Despite the challenges, Gyakie expressed gratitude for overcoming the incident, stating, ” I would say it’s one of those things that the devil kind of puts in your way, and you have to make sure you jump over it. It is either you jump over it or you fall into that trap. But I’m very happy that we’ve been able to pass that trap. And we’re here in 2025 dropping bangers and about to drop a big album.”

The AfroNation Portugal festival, held from June 28 to 30, 2023, featured performances by several Ghanaian artistes, including Gyakie, Black Sherif, and Camidoh.
