At the CAA Region II, Senior Athletics Championships held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon, Ghanaian sprinter, Kevin Arthur Paintsil, made a respectable second place in the men’s 100m final, clocking an outstanding 10.56 seconds.

Despite his powerful performance, he fell short of the gold by few seconds, which was taken by Nigeria’s Olaolu Olatunde with a time of 10.60 seconds.

The event, a significant qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games saw intense competition among West African athletes, with Arthur’s result underlining his potential as a key contender for Ghana’s relay team.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Arthur expressed his ambition to secure a spot in Ghana’s relay camp, stating, “My goal was to run fast enough to the point where GH Athletics cannot oppose me joining the guys in the relay camp.”

“I tried last year but fell short, the guys ahead of me were good and deserved to go, but this year I was ready to make a statement that I’m ready to represent Ghana,” he added.

His determination to prove his value was obvious, as he strived to indicate undeniable speed and consistency.

While Arthur’s time did not meet the Olympic’s qualifying standard, his performance has reinforced his case for inclusion in the national relay squad, with hopes of representing Ghana on the global stage.
