Popular Kumawood actor, Big Akwes, has sparked some controversy over comments he made about the role of money in relationships.

According to him, it is a ‘disgrace’ if men are unable to afford Valentine Day gifts for their partners.

The actor said this during a recent interview on Max TV after he was asked by a male viewer what to do if he couldn’t afford a gift for his girlfriend.

Big Akwes boldly stated, “You have to put some money down and get something nice for your girlfriend. If you can’t afford a gift for your girlfriend for Valentine’s, why is she still with you? Sell your phone and buy something for your partner.”

He added, “She should run away from the relationship. It is a disgrace for you not to be able to afford even a bar of chocolate for your girlfriend. It is a big insult.”

Big Akwes emphasised that money plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy relationship, arguing that emotional and physical intimacy alone is not enough.

“Money is necessary in relationships; the sex is not enough,” he added.

Addressing women, the actor advised them to be wary if their partners do not buy them gifts for the day.

He also advised them to also give their partners gifts in return.

“If your boyfriend can’t buy anything for you, leave the relationship. But if he does, you should also be able to get something for him — a watch or something will be okay,” he said.
