Nigerian singer Chike has made a bold statement on the controversial topic of whether creatives should get married while active in the music industry.

In a video shared on Instagram on August 20, 2025, Chike stated that it is a bad idea for musicians to get married.

He explained that marriage comes with a certain label, which makes it difficult for musicians to freely perform as entertainers.

“I do not think that any young artiste, whether you are trending, trying to break in, or aiming for the next level in your career, this is my personal opinion, is ready to get married. In fact, I think it’s a foolish step,” he said.

“If you’re surrounded by women and attracted to them, it starts to look like a problem. That same attraction cannot continue. If I were in the club today and somebody was grinding on me, that’s okay. But if I were married, it becomes an issue. People forget that I’m a married man,” he added.

Chike acknowledged that, despite personal choices, choosing marriage over music comes with significant limitations for a musician.

“This has nothing to do with being unfaithful to your partner. Personal choices are understandable, but I don’t think a young guy who has just entered music should get married. What are you getting married for? You have to sacrifice something to gain something,” he concluded.
