Ola Michael described Daddy Lumba as an exceptional artiste Ola Michael described Daddy Lumba as an exceptional artiste

Film producer and entertainment pundit, Ola Michael, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, describing him as one-of-a-kind musician whose impact on Ghana’s music industry is unmatched.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Ola recounted his initial reaction to the news, sharing how he was in disbelief upon hearing the unfortunate news of his demise.

“I heard the news in the morning but I didn’t believe it till later in the day. What made me believe it was the statement released by his lawyer because we’ve heard this kind of news a lot in the past. Almost every year, we hear rumours of his death.”

Ola noted that at only 60 years old, Daddy Lumba still had more to offer, especially to the youth.

“I would have wished that he lived till 90 or 100, so that the young ones could get to know that a legend like this exists,” he added.

Ola Michael added that many contemporary musicians may have overlooked Lumba’s lyrical artistry, particularly his creative wordplay.

He praised Lumba’s lyrical prowess, highlighting his unique ability to write suggestive or profane lyrics so subtly that listeners only fully grasped their meaning with age.

“Lumba is exceptional…It will be difficult for Ghana to get his kind again. He was created for a purpose, and he was a gift to the music industry,” he said.

Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, was widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest musicians with a career that spanned over four decades; he produced numerous timeless hits.
