Head coach of Ghana U17 boys national team, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has described the Black Starlets’ recent victory over Côte d’Ivoire as a highly tactical game, praising his team’s response after an earlier defeat.

The Ghana U-17 national team have been in camp for months preparing for the upcoming U-17 AFCON and recently traveled to Abidjan for two friendly matches against their West African rivals.

They suffered a 2-0 defeat in the first game on Monday, April 27 but bounced back strongly with a convincing 4-0 win in the return game on Thursday, April 30, all at the Stade Alassane Ouattara.

The enterprising gaffer praised his team’s reaction and described the second game as a tactical contest that highlighted the players’ growth and adaptability.

“I think it was a very tactical game looking at the fact that we played each other, we knew how each team was going to play,” Ogum said.

“We knew it was going to be a very difficult and challenging game based on the backdrop that we lost and they were very confident. But I think we did well to overcome that loss by rediscovering our confidence, staying focused, and preparing well for the second game,” he added.

“It reflected in our zeal and confidence on the field. It was a very good game, and I will describe it in one sentence—it was very tactical,” he concluded.

Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside South Africa, Algeria and Senegal, with the tournament set to run from May 13 to June 2 in Morocco.
