An Australian man filed a lawsuit against the hospital where he witnessed his wife undergo a cesarean-section delivery in 2018, alleging that it resulted in a “psychotic illness.”

Anil Koppula, the father, initiated the legal action several years after the procedure, asserting that it contributed to the “breakdown of his marriage.”

In the legal documents supporting his case, Mr. Koppula claimed that he was encouraged and allowed to witness the delivery, during which he saw his wife’s internal organs and blood.

He argued that the hospital had breached its duty of care towards him and should be held liable for damages.

His lawsuit sought damages totaling 1 billion Australian dollars, equivalent to over 642 million US dollars, from the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne.

However, the hospital countered that it had not breached its duty of care, and Koppula did not suffer any actual harm due to the observed C-section.

Koppula represented himself in court, but the judge, Justice James Gorton, agreed with the hospital’s position and dismissed the lawsuit, labeling the claim an “abuse of process.”

In other news, On Friday, September 15, 2023, Justice O.A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, delivered a verdict of guilt and imposed a one-year prison sentence on Ukoh Michael Odeh. This conviction stemmed from a single count charge of fraud levied against him by the Makurdi Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC, in a statement, revealed that the convict found himself entangled in legal proceedings following an intelligence report received by the Makurdi Zonal Command. This report raised concerns about suspicious activities attributed to individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Makurdi, leading to Odeh’s subsequent apprehension in a sting operation.
