Ghanaian rapper Medikal has opened up about the inspiration behind the unique names he gives his children, stating that every choice is intentional and rooted in deep meaning.
Speaking in an interview with Andy Dosty on Joy Prime, the award-winning rapper explained that his newborn son’s name, Space, was chosen to encourage boundless imagination and an unlimited worldview.
“I want a child to grow into an infinite world, you know? That’s why I named the child Space,” he said.
Medikal dismissed suggestions that the unconventional names—first Island, now Space—were attempts to seek attention. According to him, names should inspire greatness and possibilities, not simply follow societal norms.
When Andy Dosty humorously suggested that the name Space could lead to amusing moments in future relationships, Medikal laughed but maintained that the choice was serious and symbolic.
On the subject of expanding his family, the rapper hinted that he is done having more children for now.
“I don’t think there will be a next right now. I just want to focus on Island and Space and my career,” he said.
He also emphasized his desire to be a hands-on father. “I always want to be there for my kids. I’m not that father who just sends money. I like to spend time with my kids.”
