US-based Ghanaian socialite Archipalago has questioned members of the Alive Chapel International Ministries who attacked journalists at the courthouse during the arrest of their pastor, Archbishop Salifu Amoako.

In an interview on the Street is Watching podcast, Archipalago expressed concern that some church members appear to worship their pastors as if they were God.

He emphasised that Archbishop Salifu Amoako is a human being and a Ghanaian who should not receive preferential treatment under the law.

” I have watched the CCTV video, and it is so sad, but some church members are defending him, Why is the pastor God? So, if he is anointed by God, does that make him more human than another,” he asked.

Archipalago further questioned the pastor’s integrity, stating that if he were a true man of God, he should have foretold the accident involving his son and prevented it.

“If the man was a true man of God, why didn’t he see that such an accident would happen, and prevent it from happening? The church members should even use this as a lesson, if he couldn’t see that such an accident would happen, how can he see that of his church members,” he added.

    Background

The CCTV footage from the car crash, which occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, disclosed the circumstances that resulted in the deaths of two girls and left three others critically injured.

The footage showed Archbishop Salifu Amoako’s son, Elrad, speeding toward a junction where he collided with another vehicle, leading to a fire.

Assistant Division Officer (ADO) Alex King Nartey from the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed the details of the incident during an interview on Adom FM, stating that the deceased were passengers in the Acura vehicle.

    Arrest

Archbishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, his wife and one other were recently granted GH¢50,000 bail each in relation to the East Legon accident that resulted in two fatalities.

Bishop Amoako and his wife, Mouha, were arrested on Monday, following the incident involving their 16-year-old son, who is reported to have caused the death of the two young girls.

The Archbishop, his wife Mouha, and Linda Bonsu Bempah, a sales assistant, earlier appeared before the Accra Circuit Court facing charges related to allowing an unlicensed driver to operate a vehicle.
