Iranian lawmakers recently sparked international concern after burning an American flag in parliament while chanting “Death to America”. This act of protest was reportedly in response to rising tensions with the US and Israel over regional military activities and nuclear surveillance. However, it’s essential to note that the video circulating online showing this incident might not be from the current date, but rather from 2018.

The flag-burning incident occurred during a parliamentary session in Tehran, where MPs also made hostile statements against the US. Contrary to some reports, there is no credible evidence to support claims that Iranian MPs threatened a nuclear strike against the US homeland in recent events. Similar incidents in the past, such as in 2018 and 2020, show MPs burning a paper American flag and shouting “Death to America” in response to US policy.

The Iranian Parliament’s actions seem to be a reaction to perceived “imperial aggression” and US support for Israel’s actions in Gaza and beyond. Iranian officials often use such rhetoric to stir nationalist emotions rather than signaling direct military intent.
