    Dennis Nana Dwamena, known professionally as KiDi, is a Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats artist whose smooth vocals and infectious rhythms have made him a standout figure in African music.

    From his early days performing at campus cafés to topping global charts, KiDi’s journey is a masterclass in talent, timing, and tenacity.

    Early Life and Education

    Born on August 18, 1993, in Accra, Ghana, KiDi is the eldest of three siblings. His father, Gerald Thompson, hailed from Kwahu-Abetefi, while his mother, Beatrice Thompson, is of Ga descent.

    He attended St. Anthony’s School for his primary education and Accra Academy for secondary school.

    KiDi later earned a degree in Economics and Information Studies from the University of Ghana, Legon, graduating in 2016.

    Music Career

    KiDi’s musical journey began during his university years, performing at Moonlight Café, a platform for emerging artists.

    In 2015, he won the MTN Hitmaker competition, earning a deal with Lynx Entertainment.

    His breakthrough came in 2017 with “Say You Love Me”, followed by the hit “Odo”, which gained international traction after a remix featuring Davido and Mayorkun.

    He has since released:

    Sugar (2019) – Debut album, accompanied by a feature film

    Blue (2020) – EP featuring hits like “Say Cheese”

    The Golden Boy (2021) – Award-winning sophomore album

    4Play (2022) – EP showcasing his versatility

    His 2021 single “Touch It” became a global sensation, especially after a remix with Tyga, breaking streaming records for a Ghanaian artist.

    Streaming Dominance: “Touch It” became the most streamed Ghanaian song on Spotify, with millions of plays across platforms such as Boomplay, Apple Music, and YouTube.

    International Reach: Has performed alongside artists like Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Sarkodie, and Patoranking; featured on Wyclef Jean’s “Run That Back” show.

    Film Crossover: Released a movie titled Sugar in 2019 to accompany his debut album.

    Songwriting and Production: Has written and produced for artists including MzVee, Adina, and Kwesi Arthur.

    Personal Life

    KiDi is a proud father to a son named Zane, born in 2016.

    Although he keeps his romantic life private, he has been linked to UK-based Ghanaian entrepreneur Babette Van Aalst, the mother of his child.

    He is also rumored to share a close friendship with singer Cina Soul, though both deny dating.

    Known for his fashion-forward style and charismatic persona, KiDi has earned nicknames such as “Sugar Daddy”, “Golden Boy”, and “Gyal Dem Sugar.”
