The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has announced the temporary closure of Independence Square and its surrounding areas in preparation for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

A press release stated that the facility will be inaccessible from midnight on December 31, 2024, until January 8, 2025.

“In line with preparation towards the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect, the public and tourists are hereby informed that the Independence Square and its environs will be closed. The facilities will be cordoned off by National Security,” it noted.

The Ministry also urged cooperation from all affected parties, adding, “The general public and tourists are advised to take note and comply with the directive.”

It assured that the area will be cordoned off by National Security to ensure safety and smooth preparations for the historic occasion.

Independence Square is a venue for annual independence celebrations, national events, civic and military parades, and other national gatherings.
