Spanish forward of Ghanaian descent, Nico Williams, has backed his brother, Inaki Williams, to be captain of Athletic Club for a very long time.

Inaki, 31, was named the new captain of Athletic Club in May 2025, following the departure of long-serving skipper Óscar De Marcos.

According to Nico Willians, the Black Stars striker is the best person to captain the La Liga club.

Speaking after signing his new long-term deal to continue his stay at Athletic Club, Nico Williams heaped praise on Inaki Williams, insisting that he is a role model for everyone.

“We have both always dreamed of this moment. My brother is a role model for everyone, and especially for me. I think he’s the best person to be captain. I’m looking forward to seeing him in the armband for a long time,” Nico Williams said as quoted on the Athletic Club website.

In his new deal, Nico Williams has committed his future to Athletic Club until 2035.

He has pledged to give everything to the team and ensure the fans enjoy his stay.

“I hope to give back to the fullest with everything they’ve given me. I hope they enjoy it as much as always. This is also for them. I’ve always had a lot of affection for them, and I’m very proud of the fans I have,” Nico Williams said.
