Athletic Bilbao forward Iñaki Williams has called on his teammates to stay focused and aim for victory when they host FC Barcelona in round 27 of La Liga tonight at San Mamés.
The experienced attacker admitted the team is still hurting after a recent defeat in the Coppa del Rey, which denied them the chance to return to Seville, but insists the squad must now shift their attention to upcoming challenges.
Athletic Bilbao head into the clash with confidence after going unbeaten in their last three league matches, recording two wins and a draw, with their most recent outing ending in a stalemate away to Rayo Vallecano.
Williams stressed that the team must continue fighting for a place in European competitions and urged his teammates to start winning consistently as they aim to move higher up the league table.
“A tough, damn defeat. We missed the chance to return to Seville. We were all excited about it. There are still challenges and goals to achieve,” he said.
“We have to fight for Europe; that has to be our objective. We need to start winning, look upwards, and put the past behind us. This doesn’t stop, we have another great match ahead of us and we know San Mamés will be packed like it is for the big occasions, and we have to give them something to cheer about.”
The 31-year-old has made 26 appearances, scoring three goals and providing two assists for Athletic Bilbao across all competitions in the 2025-26 season.
On the international stage, he has earned 25 caps and scored two goals for Ghana.
