    By; Daniel Twumasi Kankam (Son)

“As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will be comforted…” – Isaiah 66:13

In the life of Abena Nyarkoa Comfort; affectionately known as Antie Donkor; this divine promise was lived daily. She was the embodiment of comfort, just as she was called, not only to her children and family, but to all who found healing, strength, and hope in her presence. Her touch mended bodies, her prayers lifted spirits, and her love nurtured generations. In celebrating her life, we remember a mother whose care mirrored the very heart of God; comfort, guidance, and full of grace.

Born into the warmth of two noble Ghanaian lineages; Asene Abusua of Asokore through her father, the Late Papa Kwaku Nkoma, and Aduana Abusua of Kwahu Mromuna through her mother, the Late Maame Ama Nyame; Abena Nyarkoa Comfort, affectionately known as Antie Donkor, came into this world with a purpose far greater than herself.

Her early years in Asokore shaped her quiet strength. A gentle spirit with an iron will, she married young, and though tragedy struck with the loss of her firstborn son, she did not break; she rebuilt. The pain of that loss led to separation, but not defeat.

For many years, she searched for the gift of motherhood once more. It wasn’t until she was 38 years that she found both love and destiny in the arms of Late Daniel Kankam Baffour Twumasi (Papa Kofi Kankam) of Akwapim Mamfe; son of Osafohene Kwaku Twumasi; Together, they welcomed a son; Daniel Twumasi Kankam, now known to many as Hon. Kankam “OnPoint”.

But life would test her again and again. At the tender age of three and age 29, her only son fell gravely ill. The world gave up in both situations. But not Ma. She stood firm. She fought; spiritually, emotionally, physically; and she prevailed. Her son survived in both, and in him, generations were born.

She adopted Daina Ama Tweneboah, her late sister’s daughter, as her own. She loved Diana not as a niece, not as an obligation, but as a daughter; with the same motherly ferocity, tenderness, and pride. Between them, she was blessed with 11 grandchildren; 7 from Daniel and 4 from Diana; each a testament to her legacy of love and perseverance.

But her impact did not end with her immediate family. Mother Nature 🌬 blessed her not just with children of her own, but with the rare gift to help others become mothers too. Through her deep spiritual insight and knowledge of herbal healing, she became a beacon for women who struggled to conceive; helping many hold in their arms the children they once only dreamed of.

To her children, she was Ma.

To many, she was a healer, a guide, a matriarch, a savior.

To the world, she was a mother like no other.

    We Mourn a Hero

She didn’t just raise children; She raised hope, she raised faith, she raised futures.

She didn’t just survive hardship; She turned her pain into purpose, her loss into love.

She lived with quiet strength and passed on with dignity, surrounded by the love she spent a lifetime building.

On Monday, June 30, 2025, at age 76, Abena Nyarkoa Comfort transitioned peacefully at the Eastern Regional Hospital, after battling illness with the same courage she had shown all her life.

Ma, even in your death, you are not gone from us.

We still feel your voice in our hearts,

    your lessons in our choices,

    your spirit in our strength.

You cannot bear to see us cry, and so we weep inwardly, honoring your resilience with our silence.

You lived not just as a mother, but as a hero.

Your son lives because you fought.

Your grandchildren thrive because you endured.

Women find joy because you cared.

    Rest well, Antie Donkor.

You gave the world more than it gave you.

You leave behind a name not written in stone; but etched in the hearts of all who knew you.

Grandmother of many. Mother to multitudes. Warrior in love.

You are missed. You are cherished.

And you will never, ever be forgotten.
