Black Stars defender and PAOK left-back, Baba Rahman, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to adopt a more strategic approach to planning and managing the Ghana Premier League.

According to Rahman, the domestic league has the potential to rival some of the top leagues in Africa if given the right attention and direction.

In an interview with Joy Sports, Rahman stated that the problem in the league isn’t a lack of talent, as there are many talented players in the country who play in the league.

He believes the domestic league holds great promise and could compete with the best in Africa if the right things are done to bring glory to the league.

Rahman, who made a direct transfer from Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC to German Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Fürth in 2012, believes the domestic league has the potential to compete with some of the top leagues in Africa—if given the right focus and guidance.

Rahman attributed the struggle to poor organisation and inadequate planning, saying, “The real problem lies in planning and organisation. Improving these areas is crucial to attracting fans and helping our clubs perform better.”

His comments come amid ongoing struggles for Ghanaian clubs in CAF interclub competitions.

Medeama SC’s recent achievement in reaching the group stages of the CAF Champions League in 2023 highlights the challenges faced by Ghanaian clubs at the continental level.
