IMF mission heads to Accra in September for Ghana's fifth programme review IMF mission heads to Accra in September for Ghana’s fifth programme review

A staff mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected in Accra, Ghana, by the end of September 2025 for the country’s fifth review under the $3 billion bailout programme.

If Ghana passes the review, it will receive about US$360 million in October 2025.

The review will focus on Ghana’s inflation performance, the sustainability of reserve build-up, the audit of arrears, and weak private sector banks in need of recapitalisation, among other issues.

‘Any IMF-centred campaign is a failure’ – Kennedy Agyapong

This follows the IMF Executive Board’s completion of the fourth review of Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility (ECF) arrangement, which approved a disbursement of approximately US$367 million (SDR 267.5 million) on July 7, 2025.

This brought Ghana’s total disbursements under the programme to US$2.3 billion.

The final review is scheduled for April 2026.

Following the last approval, the IMF praised Ghana’s ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring macroeconomic stability.

However, market watchers remain pessimistic about the country’s ability to maintain fiscal discipline once the three-year programme ends.
