Former Communications Director for Ghana Gas and leader of the Fixing the Country Movement, Mr. Ernest Owusu Bempah, has declared himself the “Messi of the NPP”.
He has insisted that no one in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) can rise to the presidency without his support.
“I’m not saying I’m God, and I’m not bragging,” he stated during a recent interview on Oyerepa FM/TV.
“But I have a certain grace, a gift, that makes me indispensable in the NPP. Nobody — and I mean nobody — can become president in this country on the ticket of the NPP without my blessing,” he stated.
His comments come at a time when the NPP is still healing from the political heat of its 2024 primaries, which saw a fierce contest between Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and outspoken MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong.
The two heavyweights locked horns in one of the keenly contested internal elections in the party’s history, a showdown that left clear factions within the party base.
While Dr. Bawumia eventually emerged as the NPP’s Flagbearer, Kennedy Agyapong’s strong grassroots support and unapologetic campaign style shook the very foundation of the party, making unity a pressing issue heading into the December 2024 general elections.
In the midst of this, Owusu Bempah’s claims appear to stake a spiritual and strategic authority over the party’s fate.
“If anyone doubts what I’m saying, they should check with the spiritual realm. I am not just talking — this is a reality people don’t understand,” he added.
Known for his fiery rhetoric and loyalty to the NPP, Bempah’s recent remarks will likely spark debate within the party, particularly among supporters of both Bawumia and Agyapong, many of whom are still nursing wounds from the primaries.
