Two-time Guinness World Record contender, Afua Asantewaa, has fired back at critics who have consistently criticised her fashion choices.

In a video circulating on social media on May 8, 2025, Afua made it clear that she is not interested in meeting fashion expectations and urged Ghanaians to stop advising her on how to dress.

“How old are you, how much land do you have in your name? Do you even have a house? A car isn’t even a property because anything can happen to it. Even if your building gets burnt you can still renovate it.

“You do not have any project in your name and you are here talking about me. Please I am not a fashion icon. I am a broadcast journalist… If you don’t understand you can please go to the fashionista’s page and talk about your fashion,” she said.

Afua also credited actress Tracy Boakye for influencing her financial mindset, especially when it comes to prioritising real estate over luxury fashion.

“One key lesson I picked from watching Tracy Boakye’s interview was how people spend unnecessarily on fashion. I remember how people used to criticise her outfits. She once said, instead of wasting money to impress people online, invest it in building something for yourself,” she said.

She added, “Some people live in single rooms but buy expensive outfits just to impress others on social media. I have children to raise and projects to complete. When I’m done with all that, I can choose to be the most fashionable person on earth, and no one can stop me.”
