Ghanaian rapper Lyrical Joe has expressed disappointment after missing out on the Best Rap Performance award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, the rapper said he had high hopes of winning the award, especially after putting in so much effort into his work over the past year.

“Yes, every year. I’m nominated there. I’m always hopeful. Until maybe that category definition has changed,” he said.

Lyrical Joe explained that his rap song meets all the requirements of the category, including lyrical dexterity and flow, which are key criteria for winning the award.

“When you go into the category is talking about lyrical dexterity, flow, all those, I mean, I always do that. So just like anyone that gets nominated anytime. I’m also nominated. I’m hopeful,” he stated.

He also revealed that this year’s loss was especially painful because of how much work and stress went into his works.

According to him, his ‘5th August’ song in particular, demanded a lot from him, in terms of creativity.

“Yeah, this year because last year’s 5th August song cost me a lot, a lot of stress and lots of work went in there. It’s not easy to shoot 10-minute hip-hop video and keep it top-notch. So, if I’m disappointed, it’s normal,” he added.

Lyrical Joe was nominated alongside other rappers like Eno Barony, Sarkodie, Okyeame Kwame, Flowking Stone, and Kweku Smoke.

Kweku Smoke eventually emerged winner of the category.
