The government’s spokesperson on governance and security, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, has emphasised that while polls may predict the outcome of elections, the true ‘survey’ will be conducted on the voting day itself.
Speaking on Joy News on Monday, November 25, 2024, he expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will secure victory in the pending election.
“The best survey is on the day of the election. While polls may predict outcomes, the real decision lies with the people. I remain confident that Dr. Bawumia will emerge victorious,” he stated.
Dr. Boakye-Danquah also stressed the need for a peaceful and transparent electoral process, urging Ghanaians to exercise their democratic rights without intimidation.
“Election 2024 is key. The peace of the election, the smooth transfer of power, and minimising dis/misinformation are critical. On December 7, no one should be intimidated in making their decision. My hope and prayer is that the blue candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will emerge as the winner and president-elect,” he added.
He described the political contest between Bawumia and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, as fierce.
“It’s a very close-knit race. We just hope for, a good ethical leader to guide the nation. Surveys and reports from various regions indicate how interesting this election is shaping up to be,” he explained.
With both candidates offering different visions for the country’s future, the race remains tight.
Bawumia has emphasised the need for bold solutions to address Ghana’s current challenges. His manifesto focuses on job creation and business development, proposing a range of measures designed to bolster the private sector, including a revised tax regime, significant reductions in import duties, and the removal of controversial taxes such as the E-Levy.
Meanwhile, Mahama has said that his government will work to reset Ghana and bring the economy to normalcy with his proposed policy, the 24-Hour Economy.
