A British man who went grocery shopping in the United States with his American girlfriend for the first time has revealed what surprised him most.
Alex, from Preston, Lancashire, often appears in videos alongside his partner Tay, who is from the US in a tandem that has seen the couple notch up over 50,000 followers on Instagram.
Introducing the video, Tay said they visited her local grocery store, Fry’s, while Alex added some typically dry British humour, stating: ‘Can’t be a***d, why are we coming here at 8pm at night’.
He then took a chance to have a dig at the quantity of snack foods available in the States, commenting: ‘You know all the best ways in America to fill your mouth full of s***’.
‘They’ve got a thousand different types of items here. They’ve got to have a million flavours of them’.

‘I like in England how everything is specific, like if you get crisps a couple of flavours you are good. If you get an Oreo in England you get an Oreo’.
Alex went on to express his astonishment at the range of choice when it came to different snack foods in the US.
He added: ‘[In America] you get a golden Oreo, a gluten-free Oreo, a mint Oreo, a double-stuffed Oreo. They make a new product every week’.
Alex was also shocked to discover that KitKat was branded differently in American shops compared to how they appear in the UK.
This is because in the US, KitKat is sold by Hershey, whereas in the UK and the rest of the global market, it is under the control of Nestlé.
