The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has commissioned the Centenary Hall and inaugurated the Ghana Police Music Academy, marking a major milestone in the history of the Ghana Police Service and its approach to modern policing.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday, December 24, 2025, brought together members of the Police Management Board, senior police officers, regional band directors, bandmasters, junior officers, friends from the arts fraternity and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, the IGP described the occasion as historic, noting that “it went beyond the unveiling of a physical structure to reflect a strategic philosophy of policing that recognises music as a vital tool for discipline, national cohesion, public confidence and security.”

According to the IGP, music plays a universal role in human life, cutting across cultures and emotions, and has the power to bring comfort, joy and reflection at every stage of life.

He emphasised that in contemporary security management, effectiveness is not measured solely by enforcement capacity but also by public trust, morale, communication and cultural legitimacy.

“The establishment of this Academy positions Ghana as a regional hub for structured, professional, and disciplined security music training within West Africa and beyond,” he stated.

The IGP noted that the commissioning, coming during the Christmas season and at the close of the year, was highly symbolic.

He said Christmas represents peace, sacrifice and service, values that align directly with the mandate of the Ghana Police Service.

He used the opportunity to commend officers and men across the country for their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property, especially during the festive season when security demands are heightened.

“The nature of our calling is such that we are always on duty. Your vigilance and professionalism during this festive period reaffirm our commitment to the safety and security of the nation,” he added.

Before officially cutting the tape to commission the facility, the IGP expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the Centenary Hall and the establishment of the Music Academy.

He encouraged personnel of the Police Band Unit to fully utilize the academy, pursue excellence and work towards positioning the Ghana Police Band as one of the best in West Africa and beyond.

As the year draws to a close, the IGP called on officers to remain committed to building a Police Service that is not only operationally strong but also culturally grounded, publicly engaged and internationally respected.
