Multiple award-winning journalist Saddick Adams alias Sports Obama has bemoaned the diversion of state scholarships from their intended purposes.
Saddick Adams is unhappy that state scholarship schemes which were initially created to support brilliant but needy students as well as students who undertake special courses are now being sold to the affluent in the society.
The Angel TV sports show host could not fathom why officials in high positions has access to scholarships over the “brilliant but needy.”
Saddick Adams revealed in his rant that former Sunyani West Member of Parliament, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, was awarded a scholarship to further his education while serving in Parliament.
Saddick Adams’ revelation follows a Facebook post that sought support from individuals to sponsor the education of a brilliant Adisadel College student, Elvis Marfo.
“My MP in Sunyani had been in power for four terms. That’s 16 years. He was awarded a scholarship. He was an MP for 16 years but had a scholarship.”
“For what reason? What was he going to learn that he needed a scholarship? Why would we do that and then beg for money for the brilliant but needy?”
Ignatius Baffour Awuah, who is also the owner of Nsoatreman FC, had been in office since 2008. He lost the seat in the 2024 general elections.
The former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations is currently under investigation as a suspect in the death of Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Pooley, who was stabbed during a game between Nsoatreman and Kotoko.
Meanwhile, Elvis Marfo has secured a fully funded scholarship for his education through an unidentified philanthropist and Adisadel alumni following the viral post.
