The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has raised concerns over the recent International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) rankings, which placed the Ghana Premier League (GPL) 100th globally.

The league had initially been ranked 94th before a further drop in the latest update.

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum emphasised the need for transparency in the methodology behind the rankings.

Speaking to Citi Sports, he said understanding the data, indicators, and research criteria is essential for informed decision-making and public discourse.

“I would like to know when the last research was conducted, what updates were made, and what specific factors led to Ghana’s position,” Twum stated.

“As someone who follows data collection closely, having access to this information helps shape the discussion and provides the public with the right context.”

Twum added that access to the full dataset would allow administrators and policymakers to appreciate the researchers’ work and better understand the outcome of the rankings.

“We compete with leagues that excel in image rights, branding, production, stadium facilities, visibility, and overall product appreciation. It is difficult to accept a 100th-place ranking without knowing the methodology behind the research,” he noted.
