Popular comedian and skit-maker, Comedian Warris, has lamented about the negative attitude of Ghanaians towards content creators in the country.

According to him, even though there is money to be made in skit making, creating for the local market is largely unprofitable.

Speaking in an interview with Isaac Dadzie on GhanaWeb’s X Spaces, the comedian revealed the differences in earnings, noting, “ If you do content targeted at Ghanaians, you won’t get ‘shii shii’. You can create content for Ghanaians, and you only earn $13 in revenue. However, if you create content targeted at a wider global market, you can earn up to $3,000 to $4,000.”

Warris attributed the lack of local monetization to the low reception of content, especially new content, by Ghanaians.

According to him, the system in Ghana is resistant to new ideas, often subjecting creators to intense criticism and negativity, which drains their energy and stifles innovation.

“All the noise and criticisms from the Ghanaian audience won’t give you anything. It’s just how we have made our system; we don’t allow new things to enter the system. The moment a skit maker comes up with something new, he/she come under criticism and it spoils their energy.

“For all we know, it would have become something global,” he said.
