Renowned football administrator and President of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Ntim, popularly known as Mickey Charles, has come to the defense of Ignatius Baffour-Awuah following his alleged involvement in the murder of Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
The passionate Asante Kotoko fan was fatally stabbed during their clash against Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025. What began as an on-field altercation among players quickly escalated into the stands, culminating in the tragic incident.
Reports allege that Baffour-Awuah ordered some youth of Nsoatre to orchestrate the mayhem, leading to his arrest by the Ghana Police Service as part of ongoing investigations.
However, in an interview with Asempa FM, Mickey Charles firmly dismissed the allegations, insisting that Baffour-Awuah’s character is completely at odds with such an act.
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Baffour-Awuah for over 30 years. He is a kind and gentle soul who wouldn’t harm a fly, and it’s painful to see him embroiled in this controversy. He has always been a man of integrity, and it’s difficult to reconcile these allegations with the person I know,” he said.
Visibly emotional, Charles further lamented how the accusations would permanently stain the reputation of the former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations.
“His reputation has always been spotless, but unfortunately, this incident has tarnished his image. What’s even more disturbing is that this allegation will likely follow him for the rest of his life,” he stated.
“A simple Google search of his name will now bring up results linking him to an alleged murder, which is heartbreaking for those of us who know him personally,” he added.
