Highlife musician Ofori Amponsah has said that although the late Daddy Lumba once mentored and supported him as a young artiste, he is not doing the same for anyone in the music industry currently.

In an interview on Hitz FM on November 4, 2025, Ofori Amponsah, who rose to fame under the guidance of Daddy Lumba, said that while he once extended similar support to other musicians such as Kofi Nti and Kofi B, he currently has no protégé.

He explained that mentoring and nurturing a young artiste is a challenging task because it often requires a lot.

‘He took me in and mentored me’ – Ofori Amponsah delivers a heartfelt tribute to Daddy Lumba

According to him, some young artistes tend to develop a sense of entitlement once they are given a platform without understanding the struggles that come with success.

Ofori Amponsah said that some young musicians want to instantly enjoy the lifestyle of their mentors without having endured the process of growth.

“At the moment, no. But I did it for Kofi Nti, Kofi B and others. The reason being, it’s a difficult thing; sometimes you just lift up a person from where he is to your level, and if the person has not gone through…it would be a problem. If you have a car, they want one. If you have a girl, they want one too. Everything you have, they want the same,” he added.

Daddy Lumba served as a father figure, guiding and transforming Ofori Amponsah’s career, teaching him the values of hard work and consistency in the industry.

Ofori Amponsah rose to fame in the early 2000s after working closely with Daddy Lumba on several hit songs, such as ‘Woho Kyere’, ‘Anti Atta’, ‘Odo Mmra Fie’, among others.
