    According to him, the perception that DVLA services are excessively expensive is largely driven by the activities of middlemen, popularly referred to as “goro boys,” who exploit applicants and inflate costs outside the official system.

    Speaking on the issue, Mr. Kotey explained that the DVLA has clear, structured, and affordable processes for obtaining a driver’s licence. He emphasized that applicants who deal directly with the Authority and comply with all requirements, including testing and training, will not be subjected to exorbitant charges. He noted that many of the high fees people complain about are paid to unauthorized individuals who promise to bypass procedures or speed up the process illegally.

    The DVLA CEO described the influence of these middlemen as a major challenge that has undermined public confidence in the institution over the years.
