Popular Nigerian singer Asake has opened up about the challenges of navigating fame in the entertainment industry.
In a recent video that was shared online, the singer shared his thoughts on how artists are often received based on how they carry themselves.
According to him, humility doesn’t always translate to respect and can even backfire in a world that seems to value glamour over authenticity.
In his experience, fans are often more drawn to the idea of distance, rather than openness and relatability.
He said;
“As an artist, if you’re humble, they take you for granted. But if you have ego, they feel like you’re not accessible, then they like you more. People would rather see what you’re doing than showing them. They don’t really appreciate it. Do what you need to do and just go.”
Asake believes that instead of seeking constant validation or trying to prove oneself, one should stay focused and let the work do the talking.
Below are some of the comments;
“No be lie, just do you, regardless you can’t be liked by all…at the end of the day life is about our different perspectives.”
“Celebrity or not That’s just how life works, too much access reduce value.“
“I keep saying this, humility is a trap. As you go, your ego and pride should grow with you else people will take you for granted. Humility is a trap by people just to maintain access to you when they shouldn’t. Don’t fall for it.“
