Kennedy Agyapong, a former NPP Flagbearer aspirant, has condemned attempts by some sections in the New Patriotic Party to further divide the party by spreading false narratives in response to Chairman Wontumi’s imprisonment.

According to Kennedy Agyapong, if the NPP does not take precautions and learn from the NDC, it would be in opposition for a long period.

Kennedy Agyapong told journalists on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, “I am disappointed.” I viewed two videos, one of Alex Tetteh and the other of a former Fomena chairman. When issues like this emerge, we must present a united face. “Now is not the time to bring up personal issues or settle scores,” he stated.

If the NPP wishes to gain power, it must do it via unity. This is not the time to express grievances or seek vengeance. “We need to present a united front,” he repeated.

Kennedy Agyapong remarked, “In the previous Parliament, whenever Ato Forson went to court, NDC MPs would wear red in solidarity.” They would appear in Parliament while also attending court sessions. But the same cannot be said about the NPP.”

“All factions of the NPP must work together. We need unity and peace. The internal politics are too much. “If we do not learn from the NDC, we will be in opposition for a long time,” he said.

Kennedy Agyapong’s comments come after Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a member of Kennedy Agyapong’s campaign team, claimed he provided key information to the CID that led to Chairman Wontumi’s detention.

Speaking on Neat FM, Alex Kwaku Tetteh explained, “When the CID arrived in Kumasi, they called me because I was in Accra, and I told them the position of where he was.

I gave the Kumasi location. Yes, I was the one who revealed the location of Chairman Wontumi’s house in Kumasi; I am aware of any corner where he is. I was the one who revealed it when they inquired.”

He went on to say, “We are all Ghanaians; I acted as a whistleblower, and he informed us that if the government came to Kumasi, he would negotiate with the government; he claimed that before the president came to Kumasi from Mahama’s time, he was the one who said it wasn’t me, National Security had to negotiate with him first; and he claimed he was more powerful than the Otumfuo.

When they contacted, I told them to wait and provided them five house locations. When they arrived, Wontumi called the Director of CID and requested that they allow him till Monday to report himself.”
