The Member of Parliament for Twifo-Atii Morkwaa, Hon. David Vondee, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for its failure to create sufficient employment opportunities for the youth.
According to him, the growing desperation among young Ghanaians to join the military and other security agencies is a direct result of the lack of job opportunities under the previous administration. He lamented that the situation has reached a point where thousands of graduates and skilled youth queue for limited recruitment slots, exposing the country’s deep unemployment crisis.
Hon. Vondee emphasized that the NPP’s promise of massive job creation did not translate into reality, leaving many young people frustrated and economically stranded. He argued that if the government had implemented effective job creation policies across various sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and digital innovation, fewer youth would be rushing to join the military as a means of survival. “Many of these young men and women are not necessarily passionate about the military are simply looking for any opportunity to earn a living,” he stated.
The MP further appreciated the government for prioritizing sustainable employment initiatives and interventions that are addressing the root causes of youth unemployment.
