The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Ghana, Engr. Henry Kwadwo Boateng has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his emphatic victory.

He has also urged peace and unity across the country in the wake of post-election-related misconduct.

Engr. Boateng applauded the peaceful polls, saying, “We applaud His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his election victory, and we wish him well in leading the nation forward. He truly deserves this opportunity to steer the country forward once again, as decided by the voters.”

While acknowledging the democratic process, Engr. Boateng also pointed out the unfortunate incidents of misconduct that have marred the election period post-declaration.

He is calling on the security agencies to respond swiftly and commended President-elect Mahama for addressing these issues publicly.

“The security agencies have to work diligently to maintain law and order, and we appreciate the President-elect for speaking out against the violence,” he added.

Engr. Boateng called on Ghanaians to heed the President-elect’s message of peace and restraint.

“We appeal to the public to listen to what the President-elect has said and avoid engaging in attacks or property destruction. Damaging property does not benefit anyone—it only depletes government resources that should be invested in the country’s development,” the IET President remarked.

He further emphasized the economic consequences of such actions, pointing out that the funds that will be used to repair damages could be diverted for crucial developmental projects, including job creation initiatives.

“The money that could have been used to provide employment opportunities will instead go into fixing the destruction caused by violence,” he explained.

Engr. Boateng also acknowledged that some of the unrest could be driven by criminal elements but reiterated that the law must take its course.

“We call on both the current President and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that the law deals with anyone involved in these attacks, no matter who they are,” he stated.

As a key figure in Ghana’s engineering community, Engr. Boateng reaffirmed that the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana is ready to offer its full support to the new administration.

“We stand ready to provide any technical assistance or expertise needed to advance the country’s development,” he concluded.
